The Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Ogun State branch, has pleaded with the state government to look into the dismissal of six civil servants in the employ of the state.
Three top officials, two members of staff of the state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and a secondary school teacher lost their jobs over what was considered ‘offensive’ examination question.
Those affected were officials of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology which included two directors on Grade Level 17, Mrs. Folashade Oresegun (Director, Education Support Services) and Deacon Rotimi Ganiyu Odunsi (Director, Curriculum Development and Evaluation).
Others are Mr. Oluwole Majekodunmi (Deputy Director, Curriculum Development and Evaluation) on Grade Level 16; Mr. E.O Asegbe (Desk Officer) Grade Level 10; Damilola Taylor (Proof Reader) on Grade Level 8 and a secondary school teacher, Mr.Joel Adegbenro, who set the English Language question.
The controversial question was the Section C of the English Language examination question conducted by ministry for Senior Secondary School One students in the Unified Examination for the 2014/2015 academic session which was said to have portrayed the state government in bad light in the area of education.
Speaking with Tribune Online, the state chairman of ASUSS, Akeem Lasisi, said the union believed the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, would look into the matter.
He said, “As you are aware, five officers of the state’s Ministry of Education were involved and a teacher from a secondary school in Ogun State. Already, a decision has been taken, our stand is that our governor is a listening governor and there is no decision that cannot be reversed. We are begging him to reverse the decision of the state government.”
