19 to battle for APC governorship ticket in Bayelsa

Mr Fortune Peniebi, Publicity Secretary, All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, has said that 19 aspirants are to contest the party’s gubernatorial primary election on Tuesday.

Peniebi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yenagoa, the state capital, on Monday, that the primary election would enable APC to produce the best candidate for the governorship election in December.

Among the aspirants are a former governor of the state, Mr Timipre Sylva, and a former Chairman of Niger Delta Development Commission, Mr Timi Alaibe.

Other aspirants are a former House of Representatives member, Mr Warman Ogoriba; a former Federal Government Permanent Secretary, Mr Imoro Okubo; Senator Clever Ikisikpo and Mrs Charity Vedelago.

“We are set to conduct à credible primary election and I believe we are going to produce the most popular candidate for the party.

“I am urging the aspirants to steer clear of violence because, as a party, we are putting everything in place to conduct free and fair gubernatorial primary election in Bayelsa State.

“We do not want tomorrow’s (Tuesday’s) APC primary to create disunity among party members; APC has come to stay in Bayelsa. Together we will build the party and take over the Creek Haven (Government House) in the interest of our people.

“APC is building on the solid rock in Bayelsa and we must succeed come December 5, our people will see the change that they need,” he said.
