In the latest of the numerous, ongoing federal appointments, President Muhammadu Buhari has chosen new heads for the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the Budget Office of the Federation.
Pending approval by the Senate, Dr. William Babatunde Fowler will be the Executive Chairman of the FIRS. Dr. Fowler has an undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin and an MBA from California State University in the United States.
As the head of the Lagos State Board of Internal Revenue from 2005 to 2014, Dr. Fowler oversaw the state’s internal revenue increase more than fivefold, from an average N3.4 million per month in 2006 to an average N20.5 million per month in 2013.
In a press release, presidential spokesman Femi Adesina notes that Dr. Fowler will serve as the Acting Executive Chairman until the Senate approves his appointment.
President Buhari also tapped Aliyu Yahaya Gusau to be Director General of the Budget Office. Mr. Gusau’s appointment is effective as of two days ago on Tuesday and will last for four years.
