There are indications that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has decided to wade into the crisis rocking the Ekiti State chapter of the party.
Sources in the party in Ekiti State said on Friday that the move, among other things, would prevent a possible massive defection of PDP members in the state to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
It was gathered among the leaders of the party in Abuja and its Ekiti chapter that the Uche Secondus-led NWC took the option of reconciliation rather than punitive measures to forestall the crisis from snowballing before the 2018 governorship poll.
The state executive council (SEC) of the party announced the suspension of the secretary, Dr Tope Aluko; auditor, Mr Tunji Olanrewaju; women leader, Mrs. Busayo Oyebode and assistant secretary, Mr. Ayo Esan for alleged anti-party activities.
The party said they were acting on an instruction by the NWC of the party to punish erring members of the party.
This action came after the chairman of the party in the state, Chief Idowu Faleye, was suspended by Mr Tunde Olatunde, who was declared chairman of the party by Dr. Aluko and about 10 other members of the State Working Committee over alleged poor handling of the party, particularly issues of their welfare.
The sources said the step became imperative to avert massive defection of members and prolonged internal crisis that could cost the PDP of its hold on Ekiti
