Olusegun Mimiko, the former governor of Ondo State, has joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), hours after meeting with Aminu Tambuwal, the chairman of the PDP governors' forum and the governor of Sokoto State.
Mimiko would be defecting to the PDP for the third time after leaving the party in 2019 to join the Labour Party LP, which then changed its name to Zenith Labour Party ZLP.
Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Nyesom Wike (Rivers), and Okezie Ikpeazu of the PDP were also present at the meeting (Abia).
The four governors will arrive to the PDP's National Convention in less than 24 hours.
"Stakeholders of the party from across the 18 Local Government areas of Ondo State have resolved to join the Peoples Democratic Party PDP after a meeting held at the residence of the party's national leader, Mimiko, in Ondo on Wednesday," the party state chairman, Hon Joseph Akinlaja, said in a statement issued after a three-hour meeting with ZLP leaders and supporters at Mimiko's Ondo country home.
”After deliberations, the meeting, which included Mimiko, former deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi, his running mate, Gboye Adegbenro, former speaker, Jumoke Akindele, the state chairman of the party, Hon Joseph Akinlaja, and other leaders, resolved to pitch their tent with the PDP to rescue the country from the APC's misrule and set it on a path of peace and progress for the benefit of all Nigerian
“"The meeting came after four PDP governors, led by the chairman of their forum, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, paid a visit. After their meeting with Mimiko, Okezie Ikpeazu, Nyesom Wike, and Seyi Makinde told the press that they were in Ondo to invite Mimiko and his throngs of ZLP supporters to the PDP. The stakeholders' meeting was held to review the meeting with PDP governors and close associates, as well as the outcomes of a series of engagements with PDP leaders in response to his invitation.
“
Mimiko reminded stakeholders that the ZLP has been invited to join the PDP in order to save the country from insecurity.
