Hon. (Evang.) Hope O Ikiriko CNA on Sunday 3rd of May 2020, arrested two full load of 18 seater Toyota Haice Bus that were not on essential duty for violating the State Government Border Closure directive at the Mbaima Border Point.
Hope Ikiriko, the Executive Chairman of Ahoada West Local Government Area, effected the arrest of the defaulters who violated the state government’s directive, while monitoring compliance.
Monitoring the enforcement of the border closure, the Chairman with the aid of the Task Force arrested and handed them over to security personnel as he ensures that, all COVID-19 established protocols are followed and the arrested persons face the law according to the Executive Orders signed by Governor Wike inline with the Quarantine act 2004.
The Chairman observed full compliance with the border closure order. The Taskforce and security personnel manned strategic points on the roads.
Hope Ikiriko, however, admonished people to cooperate with the state government in ensuring that coronavirus was effectively contained, saying, “The current stringent measures are for the good of the people”.
“I urge all residents to comply with the directives, protocols on the Border Closure, and social distancing to save our Local Government and indeed Rivers State from further spread of COVID-19 Pandemic.”
The Chairman who was seen sending people at the Border back to their states of origin. Said “The Border Closure was a non-discriminatory directive aimed at protecting Rivers people, adding that the arrest was not targeted at any ethnic group, but was aimed at containing the COVID-19 and stopping those who may circulate coronavirus to gain acces into the State”.
You could recalled that Governor Wike had on Thursday 30th April 2020, inaugurated Rivers State Taskforce on border closure with a view to ensuring that, the people of Rivers State are adequately protected against COVID-19.
However, the Leader of the Task Force in Ahoada West, Mr. Donald Frank, led other officials of the Rivers State COVID-19 border closure Taskforce to effecting the Border Closure directive.
Mr. Donald said necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensuring that the movement of people are permanently stopped except those on essential duties.
