An unidentified officer of the Department of State Services (DSS) has stated how Omolewu Tunji Francis, a former caretaker chairman of Ibarapa North Local Government Area, aided in the raid on the home of secessionist leader Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho, according to an audio clip.
In July, Department of State Services (DSS) agents attacked and raided Igboho's home in Soka, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, killing two persons and detaining others.
The incident's aftermath resulted in the prosecution of some of Igboho's colleagues, who were ultimately released in batches.
The DSS said that weapons and ammunition were found in his home, but the Yoruba separatist activist has disputed the allegations.
Later, when attempting to fly to Germany, Igboho and his wife, Ropo, were detained by Beninese security officers at a Cotonou airport in Benin Republic. Since then, he has been held in a Beninese prison.
According to the viral video and audio clip, Omolewu, also known as Janbele, directed the secret police to break into Igboho's home.
The male voice on the viral audio tape indicated the individual who linked the security forces to capture Igboho was extremely close to him, communicating mostly in Yoruba.
"We fought him with his ribs" (we used what is close to him). The audio clip stated, "You know, no matter how strong a person is, if something happens to their ribs (what is close to them), they will bend."
Another audio tape proved that Omolewu was behind the successful raid on his home by DSS officers.
"The individual who indicated the DSS on the ins and outs of Sunday Igboho is his close acquaintance," the voice added. In his agitation and movement, he is a very trusted buddy.
"He gave them (security agents) the opportunity to attack his home." He warned them that Sunday Igboho was strong, but that they could storm his residence at midnight.
"The individual I'm referring to is known as Janbele. He was the source who told the DSS officers how to conduct a raid on Sunday Igboho's home. Allow him to come in and reject responsibility if he wasn't the one who did it. He deceived Igboho for financial gain."
