IGP Queens, First Bank Cruise To Zenith Bank Basketball Semis
— Jul 21, 2015 6:31 am |nspector General of Police (IGP) Queens and First Bank basketball clubs have zoomed into the semi-final event of the Zenith Women National Basketball League.
After recording two straight wins against Nigeria Customs Basketball Club who they defeated 60 – 55 on Sunday and yesterday’s 71 – 51 victory over Benue Princesses, IGP Queens, yesterday, became the first team to book a semi-final ticket at the on-going finals of the competition which is in its 11th edition, currently on-going at the indoor sports hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Also through to the semi-finals is defending champion First Bank of Lagos, after recording two wins. The ‘Elephant Girls’ defeated Benue Princesses 95 – 30 in day one to earn their first victory before sending their Nigerian Customs’ counterparts to the cleaners yesterday.
Dolphins of Lagos, who are top contenders in group B, also cruised to the semi-finals yesterday after a white-wash of Sunshine Angels of Akure in a one-sided game.
An excited skipper of IGP Queens, Julie Onyelugo, confessed to being happy that team effort led to the achievement of the feat, as it is the first time the side is progressing to the semis, since the league began 11 years ago.
Another member of the team, Gift Samson, said the team, having played so well so far, has all the credentials to emerge champions.
Meanwhile, with two straight losses, Benue Princesses became the first team to crash out of the competition., followed by the Sunshine Angels of Akure and the Nigeria Customs team.
