Cyriel Dessers has returned to the Netherlands where he has joined top-flight club Feyenoord on a season-long loan, Genk have announced, reports.
The Belgian club confirmed Dessers’ loan move in a statement released on their official website on Tuesday.
“Cyriel Dessers is going to play football again in the Netherlands. KRC Genk let him leave for Feyenoord. The Rotterdammers got him for a season and also have a purchase option.
“Cyriel came to Genk in the summer of 2020. He played a total of 40 games and scored 8 goals. Due to Paul Onuachu’s fantastic season, Cyriel was mostly a substitute.
“With Iké Ugbo we already have a new attacker in the house. KRC Genk thanks Cyriel and wish him every success in the continuation of his career.”
Prior to his loan move, Dessers, 26, made six appearances in all competitions for Genk in the new campaign, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
His two assists came in the league where he featured just three times while his other appearances are two in the Champions League qualification and one in the Belgian Super Cup.
During his time at Heracle Almelo, Dessers he became the first Nigerian in history to win the top scorer award in the Dutch Eredivisie after scoring 15 goals in 26 matches in the 2019/20 season.
