Atalanta, The Chelsea midfielder has agreed to join the Serie A club

Davide Zappacosta, an Italian defender, has signed a permanent contract with Atalanta.

On Tuesday, Chelsea confirmed the deal on their official website.

Zappacosta returns to Atalanta, where he initially played Serie A football, after a four-year stint with Chelsea.

He spent last season on loan with Genoa, where he made a lot of appearances after recuperating from a major knee injury he received while on loan with Roma the previous season. He played 25 times for the northern Italian team.

Zappacosta made a few appearances for Chelsea during pre-season, but with the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta and Reece James ahead of him in the pecking order, Thomas Tuchel has let him go.

The 29-year-old defender, who made his Serie A debut with Atalanta in 2014/15 before moving to Torino, will be returning to familiar surroundings at Atalanta.

Antonio Conte signed Zappacosta for Chelsea in 2017 after seeing his outstanding performances at Turin, with Zappacosta scoring a spectacular goal against Qarabag on his full debut.
