Union Berlin's Taiwo Awoniyi was unable to save a defeat as Dortmund prevailed 4-2 in crucial play

Taiwo Awoniyi, a Super Eagles forward, was unable to prevent Union Berlin from defeat as Borussia Dortmund won a crucial 4-2 match in the Bundesliga on Sunday.

In the 25th minute, the Nigerian international came close to equalizing for Union Berlin after Erling Haaland had given the home club the lead, but his ball was intercepted by a Dortmund defender.

Awoniyi, who had previously scored three goals, was denied a goal-scoring opportunity when his shot struck the crossbar in the 38th minute.

Kevin Behrens, on the other hand, took his place in the 55th minute.

Raphael Guerreiro and a Haaland penalty put the hosts up 2-0 at halftime, and despite a Marvin Friedrich's own goal making it 3-0 for a brief while, Max Kruse pulled one back.

With 10 minutes left, away attacker Andreas Voglsammer gave the visitors hope, but Haaland's second just two minutes later sealed the win for Marco Rose's side in front of a raucous Westfalenstadion crowd on Sunday.
