The row between Super Eagles Coach Sunday Oliseh and Vincent Enyeama may have divided the team with a 2-0 loss to DR Congo on Thursday and the drama that happened on the pitch.
Captain of the team Ahmed Musa was pulled out in the second half and went straight to handover the captain armband to Mikel Obi but the Chelsea player rejected the band.
Ahmed Musa had to pass the armband to another player. Mikel’s refusal to take the armband has been generating a lot of arguments within football fraternity as many described his attitude as unprofessional and unwise.
However, some said that Mikel was being diplomatic judging by the humiliation handed to Vincent Enyeama and the eventual retirement of the goalkeeper from national assignment.
Undoubtedly, Mikel is older than Musa in the national team and should have become the captain in the absence of Enyeama, even though the coach has the legality to choose his own captain.
Will Mikel like to deputize for Ahmed Musa? The question was answered on the pitch on Thursday.
The development vividly revealed that there is crisis in the senior national team.
